Breaking Through Barriers

August 4th, 2008 by James

It’s been months since I did a worship confessional, but I’ll be posting one this week since yesterday was so amazing. Watch out for it. But before I do, I have to post this while it’s on my mind.

Yesterday at The Summit we kicked off a two-part series called ‘Fanatic’; which essentially asks the question “who or what do you worship?”. Now I have to admit to zoning out for a large chunk of the message - I woke up with some kind of stomach flu and had a rough time getting through the morning - but there were a couple of things that Scott spoke about that really set a very clear challenge to our congregation to realize the power of gathered worship and the importance of living in such a way that our worship on Sunday mornings becomes a natural extension of the rest of the week.

Something happened in the hearts of our church yesterday. As I stepped up to lead the second set at the end of the service, there was a new anticipation and a new eagerness to respond that was visibly evident as I looked out at the church. During those three songs we did at the end, we were a church that was reaching for God like we hadn’t reached before. The Holy Spirit moved amongst us. Hearts were turned. Lives were changed. Most importantly, our God was worshiped by The Summit in a way I’ve never witnessed before. Whatever barriers have been present were being broken.

Something big is happening at The Summit. I’m not sure what it is yet, but something big is happening. Seeing God help people break through their personal barriers is testament to that.

What are some of the barriers that are holding you back?
